Realtor.com just put together a list of 10 affordable and walkable cities. If you are considering a move in retirement perhaps one of these is what you are looking for. They range from East Orange, New Jersey (an hour away from Manhattan) and Philadelphia to Hartford, Connecticut and Gretna, Louisiana (south of New Orleans.) The challenge for me personally is we have a "no snow" rule when discussing if and where we might move in retirement. Nine of these get cold in the winter so I am out. Take a peek and see what you think. Wauwatosa, Wisconsin looks pretty charming and is close to Milwaukee but the snow is a deal breaker. Call me if you want to discuss what market value is on your home in San Diego so you can decide if a move like this makes sense for you.
