No surprise here but over the past decade homeownership has become an unrealistic dream for many San Diego buyers as prices have soared. Newly released data from the Census Bureau shows homeownership rates dropping overall by a percent point since 2010 but interestingly, not all sub-groups are on a downward trend. The exceptions are the Asian population where the overall proportion of households owning homes grew by nearly 3 percent and the county's oldest residents (ages 75 and older) had a rise of more than 2 percent. That one is particularly surprising to me since I frequently work with that population and many of my clients are selling and either moving out of state to be closer to family or downsizing into a senior living community.
