Nationally, about a quarter of listed homes this past spring included a pool—a record high, according to a Realtor.com® analysis of April housing data. In San Diego they are common in many of our neighborhoods. If you are thinking about buying a house with a pool what should you consider prior to the purchase? I always recommend getting the pool inspected in the same way you would inspect the house prior to purchase. If that isn't in your budget, you can do some of the same things an inspector would do like checking the pool's surface for cracks, running the pool equipment to ensure it functions properly and looking for leaks in the surrounding area. Also, don't forget to consider the costs of on-going pool maintenance as you look at your budget. Here is a good article on Realtor.com that gives you more information. I love a pool, and you may too, just be sure the one you are getting is a good one. If it is, it will add value should you sell the property in the future.
