Earlier this year a landslide in Dana Point left some high-end homes hanging off the cliff. In Nantucket Island, previously only within the budget of the ultra-wealthy, some homes are becoming bargains. Select listings in our own Mission Beach are well priced after sea level rise caused flooding. It is happening all over the country in oceanfront towns. Between beach erosion and sea level rise "homes are being whisked out to sea in Outer Banks, NC and turning into shark bait in Dauphin Island, AL" according to a recent article on Realtor.com.
Take, for instance, one six-bedroom house on Red Barn Road in Nantucket that was listed originally listed in October 2020 for $2,995,000. Four years and four price cuts later, the 3.8-acre property is now listed at $1.7 million. Even so, it is still sitting on the market after seven months per the article.
