As the older members of the millennial generation hit the median home age for buying they are looking for energy efficient technology and details that allow their personality to shine.
According to an article on CNBC, this group is also more interested in DYI projects that previous generations. Sites like YouTube and Pinterest help with knowledge and style tips and make DIY projects accessible.
As a seller, then, you might want to invest in energy efficient technology for your own benefit but also because it is what younger buyers want.
Because millennials want to show their own personality, however, it may not make sense to invest $8000 to put burgundy granite counters in your kitchen only to have a millennial buyer come in and say, "I love this kitchen but we would need to replace the counters, burgundy isn't my color." Keep in mind while granite can add value, with millennials it isn't a guarantee if the choice is too personal. Put in the burgundy if you love it and will enjoy it but don't put it in with the singular goal of increasing your value at resale time.
