With all the recent fire destruction in Los Angeles, lots of attention is being paid to insurance companies and payouts. One issue that has come to light is that some insurance companies will not pay on your claim if your property is in a trust and the trust has not been named as "additionally insured" on the policy. Having your home in trust is an outstanding way to avoid probate upon the death of the owners but when it comes to insurance make sure you have things spelled out.
There was a small blurb on this in Sunday's Union-Tribune related to the LA wildfires and a claim being denied for this reason. Note to self: it is time to call your insurance company and make sure you have this addressed if your property is in a trust.
